Paediatric Occupational Therapist

Kelly Powell Occupational Therapist specialises in working with children who have a range of developmental conditions including Learning Difficulties, Developmental Delay, Intellectual Disability, Developmental Coordination Disorder, Asperger's Syndrome, Autism, ADHD and Sensory Processing Dysfunction, as well as providing general Occupational Therapy.

Kelly has over 25 years' experience in Paediatric Occupational Therapy (working in a range of settings including Private Practice, SCOPE, Special Schools, DHS, Early Intervention teams and in the UK and USA) and currently also lectures in Occupational Therapy at Deakin University. She is able to combine academic research with practical clinical skills in order to provide best practice to her clients.

Kelly regularly attends conferences & workshops from Australian and International Therapists to ensure she has up to date knowledge in her field. She has a post graduate certificate in Sensory Integration (SIPT) and has conducted many workshops educating families and carers in relation to sensory processing & its impact on behaviour. She has recently returned from the USA where she completed her PLAY Project certification (making her the only registered consultant in Australia - refer to the website The PLAY project is an evidenced based parent led program based on the principles of DIR/Floortime. The PLAY Project is an evidence based technique is widely used in the USA with children with Autism to enable them to improve their social-emotional development in terms of engagement, relating and the ability to think and problem solve. Kelly is also the only registered provider for Interactive Metronome in Geelong. This assessment and treatment approach has been proven to assist children and adults in improving attention, concentration, motor planning and sequencing. This directly impacts on motor control and coordination, balance, language and cognitive abilities.
